Mario Andretti

No driver of the era crossed more of Monty's racing world than Mario Andretti — Indy cars, stock cars, Formula One, and the great California superspeedway where Monty learned event marketing.

Mario Andretti was the defining all-around American racer of the period: Daytona 500 winner in 1967, Indianapolis 500 winner in 1969, and eventually Formula One World Champion in 1978.

Ontario Motor Speedway — where Monty worked in race marketing — was an Andretti stage. Mario competed there in the California 500 and the track's marquee Indy car events throughout the early 1970s, the very races Monty's world was promoting to a national audience.

Family accounts include Andretti among the racing figures of Monty's career. As with all personal connections in this archive, the family record is presented as such, and documentation is invited.
